[ARCHIVED] Spring Cemetery Care

Spring Cemetery Care

The City of Rawlins Parks Division will clean the cemetery beginning Monday, April 28th. They will remove all flowers, statutes, etc., that are not permanently attached to the headstone/base and remove any containers or decorations made of glass, porcelain, or pottery. These items are prohibited by city ordinance.

In honor of Memorial Day, additional decorations may be placed at the cemetery from Saturday, May 17th, to Sunday, June 1st.

The City of Rawlins is also increasing our efforts to control the ground squirrels, commonly misidentified as gophers, at the cemetery in partnership with Carbon County Weed & Pest. Our priority is to create an environment where our loved ones’ resting place is treated with respect. These animals have caused major damage to our cemetery. Their burrows and tunnels create unstable ground, which then damages gravestones and irrigation. They are also very destructive to turf.

We are more than tripling the number of T-trap bait stations for our annual placement of Rozol. Rozol will be placed in the stations this spring and again in late summer. Risks to non-target species are being mitigated by following all EPA label requirements including regular survey for above ground carcasses. In addition, we are using smaller than required (3" instead of 4") bait stations.  If you find a deceased rodent, please contact Public Works at 307-328-4599 so it can be disposed of per regulations.

For more information, including all regulations, please visit www.rawlinswy.gov/cemetery or call 307-328-4500 ext. 1022.
