[ARCHIVED] Foot Pursuit April 5th

Badge with background

On Friday, April 5, 2024, officers of the Rawlins Police Department were dispatched to the area of E Pine Street and Colorado Street on the report of a man yelling outside a home at 10:21 AM.  When the officers arrived, no one was yelling, but the responding officer identified a male who was wanted for a City of Rawlins Municipal Court Warrant.  The male ran from the scene on foot and a search ensued.  Officers also received information stating he may be armed.  As a precaution, Victory High School and the Carbon County School District 1 offices were advised to follow their emergency protocol “Secure” and they locked exterior doors, kept students on campus, and continued operations as normal inside.

Rawlins PD officers were assisted by troopers with Wyoming Highway Patrol and deputies of the Carbon County Sheriff's Office to search the area of the fairgrounds and the surrounding neighborhood.  Around 11:00 AM, the man was seen leaving a home near the VFW baseball fields.  Officers responded and another short foot pursuit ensued, resulting in the man being arrested.  The man was found to be unarmed.  The protocol in this case was to have the person seen and cleared medically before being booked into the Carbon County Jail.  The man was cleared medically at the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County, then was booked in at the jail without further incident.  The formal criminal charges unrelated to the original arrest warrant are pending at this time.  The man was seen in Rawlins Municipal Court for his arrest warrant on April 8, 2024.  The Rawlins Police Department thanks the citizens and other agencies involved for their assistance in this incident.
