[ARCHIVED] Seven Parking Tips

Parking Ordinances (Facebook Post)

Are you aware of our local parking ordinances and the process our officers follow before giving a parking citation? Chief Mike Ward says, “The Rawlins Police Department is dedicated to working cooperatively with our community to resolve parking issues. Before any ticket is given, our officers will work with the residents as long as we stay in discussion and reasonable progress is being made.”

First, officers will attempt to contact citizens by phone or at their homes when a violation is observed. If we are unable to make contact, the officer will leave a warning notice of the violation on the vehicle. If you get a parking warning sticker, please touch base with the issuing officer by calling 307-328-4530.

Once contact is made, officers provide one-on-one education and reasonable time to remedy the issue. If you stay in communication and show progress, our officers will work with you for a realistic amount of time. Our officer’s primary concern is the safety of our citizens, keeping sidewalks open to pedestrians and cyclists, and helping citizens comply with City and State parking regulations.  Tickets will be given if necessary.

As part of our education, the Rawlins Police Department has a webpage dedicated to parking education at www.rawlinswy.gov/parkingtips. It includes information on common violations, including blocking sidewalks, derelict vehicles, parking too close to intersections, parking with the vehicle facing traffic, and more. The site also includes the full wording of the selected ordinances, diagrams, and photos. This information has also been shared in city publications and on Facebook.

If you receive a notice, have a question about the parking codes, or would like to report a parking issue in your neighborhood, please call (307)328-4530 or visit www.rawlinswy.gov/concern and click on “parking concerns.”
