[ARCHIVED] Vandalism Repeatedly Closes Park Restrooms

parks pic 3

Vandalism in the parks is an ongoing issue for the City of Rawlins, which leads to closed bathrooms and prevents our staff from working on other projects. We ask the community to please monitor activities inside the park to help keep the parks safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.

The most common forms of vandalism occurring are :

  • Items are placed inside toilets, often gravel or other items from the park.
  • Graffiti, almost 100 items were tagged so far this year alone
  • Destruction of property, such as damaging the playgrounds, tearing parts of pavillions off, etc.
  • Trash being thrown around bathrooms, playgrounds and other areas

Park restrooms have closed multiple times this year due to the clogged toilets from vandalism. Repairs are sometimes as simple as snaking the drain, but in the past have included the replacement of a sewer line. This vandalism may lead to the decision to close affected bathroom facilities on a more permanent basis.

If anyone has any information regarding the vandalism in Rawlins Parks, they are asked to call the Rawlins Police Department at 307-328-4530.
