[ARCHIVED] Critical Water Shortage, Reduce Use

Water Main Break

Use water only for critical uses in Rawlins and Sinclair for next two days

The City of Rawlins is asking residents of Rawlins and Sinclair to only use water for critical purposes for the next two days. If water usage is not reduced, a boil water notice may be issued. If you are currently out of water and have no drinking water available, please call 307-328-7777. We will put you on a list for water once the drinking water arrives so that you can pick it up from the designated location.

The C4 Emergency Center has been activated and is working to obtain additional drinking and non-potable water for our community from outside resources, such as Red Cross.

Due to three problems at the same time – reduced flow into town from the springs, in town-water breaks which drained our tank reserves, and a pump issue at the water treatment plant, our water reserves are critically low. Water is not making it into town as fast as it is being used.  Please do not use water except for drinking for the next two days or until otherwise notified.

City Fire trucks have full water tanks for firefighting purposes. Raw water is also being provided to the hospital, nursing home and other critical areas for toilet flushing.

This is partially due to reduced water flow into town this winter as the main pipeline was repaired. Although the three pipeline repairs have been made, the water takes between 1-2 days to flow into town.

For further information please visit rawlinswy.org/water or call 307-328-7777 from 7am to 7pm. Updates will be posted regularly.
