[ARCHIVED] Priority Dispatch Center

Priority Dispatch Training

The Rawlins Police Department and City of Rawlins are proud to announce that we are now a certified Fire and Police Priority Dispatch Center, in addition to being a certified Medical Priority Dispatch Center for the past 4 years. Priority Dispatch is a system used worldwide to allow dispatchers to provide faster and more targeted help in all types of emergencies.   All City of Rawlins Communications Officers received 48 hours of in-depth training to be certified, in addition to performing their regular dispatching duties. In total, the Communications Officers received 267 hours of training. In addition, personnel from Communications, Fire, and Police reviewed thousands of protocols to determine what would happen for each type of call locally.

Now, when you call 911, you will be asked:

  1. “What’s the address of the emergency?”
  2. “What’s the phone number you’re calling from?”
  3. “Tell me exactly what happened.”

The answers to these questions will automatically prompt the Communications Officers to ask specific questions to gather the appropriate information each time.  Priority Dispatch will provide uniform procedures for all calls so proper information can be given to the responders. The Communications Officer will be:

  1. Sending help while gathering information for responders
  2. Providing life-saving instructions, if applicable, to you
  3. Remain on the line with you until help arrives, if necessary

The RPD Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year manned by a total of five to seven Communications Officers. In the case of an emergency, please call or text 911. You can reach them for non-emergencies by calling 307-328-4530 or by stopping the RPD at 215 5th Street.

For more information, please contact Mira Miller, City of Rawlins Community Relations Coordinator, at 307-328-4500 ext. 1022.
