Update Tuesday at Noon: A break has been identified and water service has been turned off to the Glenn Addition and properties east of town to allow for repair.
Repairing a water break involves these steps:
*obtain 811 locates from other utilities such as gas and electric,
*excavate,
*identify the specific break location and type,
*repair the break,
*restore water service and monitor for additional breaks, and
*backfill.
Depending on the size and type of the break, these repairs take an average of 3 – 5 staff between 8 and 20 hours. Our crews will remain on site as long as allowed to make the repair.
Information regarding breaks is generally posted on our website and Facebook. These are typically only posted between 7 am and 8 pm and contain the location of the break and area affected.
This post will typically be updated when the repair is complete. However, regular updates are not usually shared as the crews are focusing on making the repairs and they do not send updates at each step.

Update Tuesday at 9 am: City Utilities staff worked yesterday to find the water break, beginning near Washington Street where water was seen on the surface. Crews dug to the line, excavating around 40 feet of pipe, without finding the minor break. They will continue working today to the east of Washington Street and will not close Washington/Colorado Streets at this time. This post will continue to be updated.

The vehicle underpass located at Colorado/Washington Streets and Front Street will be closed to allow access to repair a minor water break on Monday, January 12th at 9 am. Depending on the size and type of the break, these repairs take an average of 3 – 5 staff between 8 and 20 hours. Our crews will remain on site as long as allowed to make the repair.
This is one of multiple water supply lines feeding neighborhoods in the area, so no homes' or businesses' water access is expected to be impacted by the water break. The road closure will extend from the Colorado/Spruce intersection to the Washington/Railroad intersection, totaling two blocks. Please see map for clarification. The pedestrian underpass will remain open.
