On February 27, 2025, the Rawlins Police Department (RPD) responded to Walmart on the report of a man stealing electronics from the store. A physical description of the suspect and vehicle were quickly provided to area law enforcement by the RPD and Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Communication Centers. Troopers with the Wyoming Highway Patrol and a deputy with the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office stopped the vehicle west of Wamsutter and detained three men.
The men were found to be in possession of over $10,000 worth of electronics believed to have been stolen from the Rawlins Walmart and other stores in the surrounding region. The electronics were seized by the officers. The Rawlins Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation with the assistance of the Walmart regional loss prevention team and other jurisdictions across several states on similar thefts.
The RPD appreciates the assistance of the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol for their quick and effective response. All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The identity of the suspects and other information will be available through Carbon County Circuit Court following formal charges.
