[ARCHIVED] Information About New FEMA Floodplain in Rawlins

Graphic for FEMA

The City of Rawlins has updated our FEMA floodplain website at www.rawlinswy.gov/fema with extensive information regarding the proposed floodplain. Check out the website for answers to the following questions:

  • Why does Rawlins now include a floodplain?
  • What has the city done about the new floodplain?
  • What other options did the City have?
  • What if the floodplain is not reduced through the study? Can the City reduce it in other ways?
  • Will properties be required to purchase insurance?
  • Do property owners have any other option to eliminate their insurance requirements?
  • What other effects will this have on properties?
  • Where can I find more information?

We will also be mailing a letter next week directly to properties we believe may fall into the floodplain based on manual selection from the county’s website. This floodplain will affect approximately 385 properties on the south side of Rawlins beginning on December 20, 2024. To view the interactive map, visit https://carbonwy.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c15a878d7c654f1b83f8527bc3e74de3

We encourage everyone in our community, especially those with property in the floodplain, to review the information on the city’s site and the state and federal pages. Please contact your mortgage holder for more information on your property’s potential insurance requirements. If you have further questions, please contact Mira Miller, Community Relations/PIO, at 307-328-4500 ext. 1022.
