[ARCHIVED] Fire between Spruce and Cedar

On Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at approximately 7:30 pm the Rawlins Fire and Police Departments responded to a large wildland fire that impacted some outbuildings and vehicles in the 700 block between East Cedar and East Spruce. The was also a spot fire south of Cedar, but was contained before it impacted any vehicles or structures. 

The perimeter was controlled by 10 pm. Hotspot mop-ups are still in process and crews will be on scene throughout the night. There may still be a significant amount of smoke. There was one minor injury to a firefighter and none to civilians.  The cause of fire has not been determined. The RFD is conducting the state-required investigation. 

Bureau of Land Management Fire, Carbon County Fire, Town of Elk Mountain Fire, HF Sinclair Fire, Town of Sinclair Fire, and Town of Wamsutter Fire assisted. Classic Air Medical and Memorial Hospital EMS crews provided additional assistance. Rawlins Police Department, Carbon County Sherrifs Department, Sinclair Police Department, and Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control and command. The Rawlins Fire Department thanks all of the partner agencies for their assistance. 

PRIOR POSTS: 

Update at 12:15 pm: Spruce Street is open to through traffic.  

Update at 11:15 pm: There was one minor injury to a firefighter. It was treated on scene. 

Update at 10:00 pm: The fire's footprint is no longer growing. The fire departments are attacking active hot spots. Please continue to avoid the area. 

Power has been cut to the whole surrounding area for the firefighting. It is a much larger area than the fire.  - Power has now been restored.


8:00pm Please avoid the areas between Utah to Harshman between Spruce and Cedar due to a fire and blowing smoke. There are multiple fire departments on scene. There have been outbuildings on fire, but no primary structures.
