Blain Schumacher

The City of Rawlins is proud to announce our new Fire Chief – Blain Schumacher. Blain will be an incredible addition to the City of Rawlins and to our citizens. He will likely start in late January.

“What stood out to me most about Blain is the type of person that he is,” stated City Manager Shawn Metcalf. “He’s a caring person and his love for firefighting and service to the community emanates from him. That passion, along with his qualifications, will make him an excellent Fire Chief for our City.”

Blain has served in a variety of firefighting positions over the course of 32 years including Operational, Technical and Administrative experience. These positions include: Firefighter, Driver Operator, Lieutenant, Captain, Division Chief, Fire Prevention Inspector, Training Chief, Health and Safety Officer, Assistant Fire Chief, Chief Fire Officer, and acting Fire Chief. Altogether, he has a combination of 26 certifications and/or licenses.

Some of his notable accomplishments include:

•             Selected as Federal Employee of the Year (Department of Defense).

•             Awarded for The Air Force Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award, the second highest award bestowed to federal civilians.

•             3 time Air Force Level Fire Officer of the year.

•             His fire department one of only 221 internationally accredited fire departments.

Schumacher was selected from 28 applicants, including many with fire chief experience.
