[ARCHIVED] Football Skill & Drills

Skills Drills Football Camp

The Rawlins Family Recreation Center (RFRC) is excited for the upcoming youth football program this fall and are hopeful for a great turnout. This year, the RFRC will be offering a Skills & Drills Football Camp for 3rd-6th grade. Register now online at rawlinsrecreation.sportsiteslabs.com, call the RFRC Center at 307-324-7529 or come into the RFRC. Registration is open until September 8.

“Unfortunately we are unable to do tackle football this year but the RFRC is doing the next best thing for these kids. We, as coaches, support their decisions and will work hard to provide an awesome skills camp they will love.” said Coach Louis Espinoza, a seasoned RFRC coach for multiple sports.

A Skills and Drills Camp was chosen after review of Statewide Public Health Order #1, COVID-19: Guidance for Youth Sports from the Wyoming Department of Health and discussion with volunteer coaching staff and local county health officials. We collectively come to the conclusion that it is in the best interest and safety of the youth to provide a non-contact skills camp. The Wyoming Department of Health has identified tackle football as a prohibited close-contact sport. Also, according to the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA), football is considered a “higher risk” sport. This includes sports that involve close and sustained contact between participants, lack of protective barriers, and high probability that respiratory particles will be transmitted between participants. The Adult Flag football program was evaluated under the same guidelines and unfortunately assessed as high risk also.

The RFRC will continue to abide by the regulations set by the Wyoming Department of Health. Each program sponsored by the RFRC has, and will be, evaluated individually to make sure the proper precautions and procedures are followed. Safety is the most important element when it comes to athletic programs run by the RFRC. We hope for a brighter future and the ability to offer more upcoming programs. Thank you for your support and understanding at this time.
