Training

The Detectives are trained to handle all of the various felony cases that come into the Department. They work hand in hand with the street patrol, DCI, FBI, ATF, DEA, and any other department that needs assistance throughout the state, and sometimes throughout the country. The Rawlins Police Department Detectives handle cases from the time the initial report form is received from the responding officer to the final adjudication process.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Investigation Division are to investigate all felonies, including:

  • Burglary
  • Child abuse
  • Forgery
  • Fraud
  • Homicide
  • Illegal drug activity
  • Internal Affairs
  • Larceny -Over $1,000
  • Missing persons
  • Sexual assaults
  • Suicides

Other tasks that the detectives are responsible for include working with evidence, surveillance of illegal activity where needed, and crime scene management.
